After returning from France, I hit the road to the mountains of North Carolina then to the usual places I have explored in Florida for the winter. I stopped in a couple new places coming back north, and after a minor accident, I settled in Walnut Cove, NC waiting on car repairs and a knee replacement. By late summer, I should be back on the road exploring again. I’ve been spending most of my time on video and social media so the blog has suffered a bit. Hope this will catch you up if you haven’t visited in a while!
I spent a month in West Jefferson, NC visiting friends and the enjoying the local craft beer scene. With higher gas prices, I’ve been staying longer in one place and getting to dig deeper into the local culture.
After a month in West Jefferson, NC, I moved to Mount Airy, NC.
After a couple weeks in Mount Airy, I moved to Asheville, North Carolina for a couple months.
Leaving Asheville, it was time to head to Florida. I visited most of the same places so not a lot of new photos here. Below is Hunting Island State Park and light house in South Carolina.
Coming back north in the spring, I stopped for a week in Cordele, Georgia, “Watermelon Capitol of the World”! Cordele is also home to the SAM Shortline excursion train. I made the mistake of riding it on the only day that tickets were available – Valentines Day! Watch the video linked below for more details.
Leaving Cordele, GA, I struck a timber in the middle of the road which impaled the Jeep. It ripped off the lower bumper and my towing cable that powers the lights and brakes!
I bought a new tow cable and had the Jeep inspected to determine if it was still drivable. I was able to enjoy my visit to Stone Mountain State Park in Georgia before continuing on to my final destination in Walnut Cove, NC.
I’m settled in my Brother-in-laws house while I wait for Jeep repairs and knee replacement surgery later this summer. Then hopefully, I’ll be back on the road for more adventures!
Great pictures Jim.
