I stayed two nights at City of Rocks. It’s a beautiful area with lots of climbers coming to scale the granite so MAKE RESERVATIONS! The National Reserve is commingled with the State Park by the same name which caused me great confusion. All the NP sites are good for tents and VERY small RVs. Only the State Park has sites suitable for Large RVs. Second problem was all the sites had pink RESERVED tags on them. I was assured there were 6 sites available and when I couldn’t find them, I went to boondock in the valley outside the park where I had to run the generator for HOURS to stay cool. I was able to get online and reserve a site with electric for the next night and when I checked in, I complained about not finding the sites I was assured were available the night before. They said “Oh – You have to look at the dates”! I would have to get out of the RV or use binoculars to see the dates as I drive by! Every park but this one that I have been to says you can occupy any unoccupied site for one night, they only post the reserved tags marking it as reserved on the day of arrival for the incoming party. After all the frustration, I stall had a good time and enjoyed the park!
City of Rocks granite is internationally renowned among climbers. Can you see her?
