Custer Bison and Crazy Horse

I spent the day driving through Custer State Park and visiting the Crazy Horse Memorial. I took all of the Bison photos from the car unlike some of the tourist who were out of their cars and standing no more than 20 or 30 feet away.

Mount Rushmore

Sturgis and The Needles Hwy

I left Devils Tower for Sturgis, SD. Even though the big annual motorcycle rally was over, I thought it would be fun to see the area so I have a better idea of where to stay and what to see if I come back for the rally someday. The metal sculptures are in front of …

Cody, Wy to Devils Tower, WY

While I was in Cody, WY, I took a drive on the Beartooth Hwy. which is part of the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. It runs from Red Lodge in Montana to Yellowstone in Wyoming. Leaving Red Lodge, Montana to return to Cody, Wyoming by a different route through Bearcreek, I passed the Smith Mine Disaster …

Glacier to Yellowstone

Before leaving Glacier NP for Yellowstone, I went to see the Hungry Horse Dam on Montana’s Flathead River. The local residents are very proud of the dam and 30 mile long reservoir which creates a recreation mecca for camping, fishing, and boating. I spent the night at Lake Alva Forest Service Campground on the first …

Vintage campers

An all female camping club, Sisters on the Fly, visited Winchester State Park during my stay. They created quite a bit of excitement with their mostly classic campers.

Boise to Lewiston Idaho

I haven’t enjoyed a drive lately as much as I enjoyed the drive from Boise, Idaho to Lewiston, ID. Leaving Boise on ID-55, almost immediately you are into the mountains, driving along the Payette River. You start at 2500 feet and climb to a plateau at 5500 feet where I camped at Cascade Lake. Headed …

City of Rocks National Reserve

I stayed two nights at City of Rocks. It’s a beautiful area with lots of climbers coming to scale the granite so MAKE RESERVATIONS! The National Reserve is commingled with the State Park by the same name which caused me great confusion. All the NP sites are good for tents and VERY small RVs. Only …
